Please help find a niftar's parents Jewish names.
« on: March 04, 2021, 09:21:24 PM »
Dr Jay Goldstein passed away this afternoon in Fargo, ND. Ideally, for the tahara and levaya scheduled for tomorrow (erev Shabbos) we would have his Jewish name and parents names, but when I spoke with him last week, he did not remember his parents Jewish names (his name is Yaakov). Neither does his wife or close friend.

He had been estranged from his family for years, and we don't even know who to ask. Seeing the recent success this forum had connecting a heirloom siddur with it's family (great job @biobook !), I figured it might be worthwhile to give it a shot.

Here is what we know:

Father (Sol or Saul) passed in early 70s.
Mother (Rae) passed in early to mid 80s. She lived in a nursing home prior.
Both definitely lived in Philly till they passed, and are most likely buried there.

Mother's maiden name was Ingber.
There was someone in the family named Mary Ingber.

The family had a women's handbag business.

Any leads on what their Jewish names are or where they are buried would be greatly appreciated. Even if not on time for tomorrow, it would be helpful later for the monument.

Thank you so much,
-RYG

I don't know anything about this stuff, but a quick google search brought up these records from Mt Carmel Cemetery in Philadelphia which list a Rae Goldstein that passed away Jan 31 1977 and is buried in SEC G LOT 100 GRAVE 3 of that cemetery. Details are a bit off of what you described but maybe...

If this is the father, the date of death might give insight into where to find obituaries

Only one Rae Goldstein of Philadelphia comes up in the Social Security Death index, and the details match this one, which would indicate that this is the correct person.

Wow - thank you for all the responses so far! Based on
Let the fun begin.

https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/inquirer/obituary.aspx?n=rae-goldstein&pid=786079&fhid=4366
, which matches the names of Rae's children that I have - it would seem that my initial information that Rae passed in the 80s was mistaken.

I can try to call Goldsteins Funeral Home in the morning and see if they have any burial information. If we can locate a monument, it would likely have her Jewish name on it.

Further comments or leads welcome...

look at the record two rows down from her, she was buried 50 years before she died. So don't put too much stock in the date.
(OTOH you would think she'd likely be buried with her Husband and he doesn't seem to be there...)

Date matches the SSDI

Any DDFers in or near Elkins Park that can wander over to the cemetery in the morning?

That seems to match the details in this obituary, which seems to be a different person as the wife and children are different than the ones OP mentioned.
