How can both of these b be true

The Turnpike isn't that long. Did a stop in the middle. Now, I drove straight through the night with one other stop in Ohio.

Sure, there are likely tons all along the i80, but it's not as clean an experience.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

You guys are acting like I80 is some little desert road with services every hundred miles...

it's hard to beat matching the miles remaining gauge with the distance of the next gas station
If you can make it to OH vs filling filling up in PA you'll save some money.

There's a good exit at the beginning of OH with a bunch of truck stops etc, IIRC it's exit 234. (talking about I80)

Cost for the entire length is a ridiculous metric. The most expensive per mile is the Delaware Turnpike IIRC.

Also, their number of $112 gets cut to less than half if you use EZPass.

So anyone not using an EZpass transponder has to pay via toll-by-plate invoice that comes in the mail? I wonder what their overhead is for processing every such toll is? Those costs get passed on to you...

There's always scenic route 14. No tolls and several Walmarts along the way. Just try not to get a speeding ticket when the limit briefly drops to 35mph in east palestine.

Don't forget to factor in the savings from eliminating manned tollbooths and printing the tickets.

Good point, but this is government so funds saved get spent elsewhere, new expenditures get passed on.

The pa turnpike is only allowed to toll as long as they are working on it, so it needs to remain in the loop at least to some extent

Ended up doing the 80 through Pennsylvania. Left in the early afternoon and got on the 80 at about 3:30 pm.

Stopped around 6:30 for an hour at Snow Shoe rest area for bathrooms and dinner. Was a pretty nice little building with a bathroom and vending machines.

Drove another hour to the TA off exit 78 to get gas and Maariv. Ended up being a 45 minute stop with bathroom, feeding and diaper change. It was dark by then, but we drove an hour in the dark before getting onto the Ohio turnpike.

Bottom line is the 80 is great, but it’s out of the way by a bit and annoying to add the time to an already long drive.

I’m planning to drive from the east coast to Chicago, and I want to stop overnight along the way, somewhere between Pittsburg and Chicago. I have free marriot nights, but most decent roadside hotels are either Hilton (Garden inn) or holiday inn.

Does anyone know if there are any marriot/spg hotels not too far off the I-80 in Ohio or Indiana?

Once you’re thinking of stopping in Indiana I’d say drive three more hours and get it over with.
