Nope, brand new.

Has anyone had any experience using a cellphone to go online from a laptop or netbook?  I have an unlimited-internet cellphone plan (SERO for Sprint).  Would this work, what would I need to make it work, and what kind of trouble could I end up in?

The hardware part I never tested, but I know that they can figure out if you don't use it only for your phone. If according to your plan, you are not supposed to do it, be careful not to exaggerate.

Never done it, but I've seen it done by Shadowmite (an infamous Palm hacker). Been considering it, but an unactivated Pre is hard to come by these days (affordably). Plus, its kind of illegal to modify an ESN...

To use Opera mini on a centro you need a Java Virtual Machine (JVM). to get it go to the Opera Mini forum on opera.com (if you can't find it use google) and search for palm jvm. you should find links or if you post a question about it someone will  pm it to you.

Download usbmodem trial and it comes with a file with instructions (btw the theoretical speed is much higher using cable).

You can't sync via USB with a 64-bit computer.
You can use USBModem for DUN with a 64-bit computer.
You can sync via bluetooth with a 64-bit computer.

My understanding is that its the same computer that he used to be able to tether, he no longer can.
