I know it's a thing, but seems like the vast majority don't except for maybe Yom Tov as it's just not comfortable or durable.

FWIW, a Shemtov is durable and just as comfortable as wool. But you have to be able to handle dealing with him.

I know someone that just replaced their silk kapote from primo/sachos after 5 years

Dropped something like $600 on my silk wedding kapota from him. Probably wore it 5 times. Not even close to a HKG wool kapota.

I wore the 2 (silk and wool) I got from him at my wedding for ~7 years. On my 3rd Primo wool in the last 3-4 years

I lost one of my kapotas after a few years, and I never knew if it was the wool or silk one. For all I know, he gave me two wool. Wouldn't put it past him

Getting a Shemtov kapota should be required for every chosson. Not for the kapota, but for the life-altering experience.

But it may be better that barely any silk
