“Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly told CNBC on Tuesday he believes businesses should not impose Covid vaccine mandates on their employees, but he said his company is doing so to comply with federal rules put in place by the Biden administration.

Southwest said last week that its 56,000 employees needed to be vaccinated against Covid by Dec. 8 in order to keep working at the airline under the federal mandate. Southwest's announcement came a few days after other carriers — including American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue Airways — informed employees about the need to adhere to federal vaccine rules.”

Considering that it would be illegal for the union to have a sick out, what did you expect them to say?
But by all means, why was only Southwest affected?

I agree but what was the sick rate during this period? If it was inline then you can't blame the mandate.

It is not illegal if it wasn't organized.

Does not matter if you are hesitant, anti-vaxxer, kool-aid drinker or anything else. That does not change the the medical statistics/studies.

Maybe a year ago, there might have been a difference. At this point, there is no real reason to be anti-Covid vax, unless you're anti-vax twisted in the first place.

As discussed in other threads, anti-government / anti-mainstream medicine attitudes have spread with covid for various reasons. It would be foolish to think these attitudes are limiting themselves to the covid vaccine. Plenty of people who trusted their doctor and vaccinated have now become totally anti vax starting with being anti covid vax. Start with the flu vaccine, and do informal polls of your peers and see how many who usually do get it (for the kids at least) are not getting it this year. Then move to other vaccines and you'll start to hear the same rhetoric.

Logically, perhaps. But covid has opened people up to all kinds of conspiracies and whatnot, and now you have people who never thought about these things before and trusted their doctors who are saying, "I'm not injecting that stuff in my kid's body" before scouring Facebook in search of Ivermectin.
