Lies. In fact, scientists from the get-go insisted that there was insufficient evidence to say to what extent the vaccine prevents transmission (hence the CDC kept the mask mandate going for a while). Hypocritically, *you* were calling out this hesitation as a “proof” that the vaccine doesn’t work with a classic all or nothing strawman.

Truthfully it *did* protect against infection and transmission at a much higher rate than they gave it credit for, but waning immunity and Omicron are significantly weakening that effect. Still, vaccination *does* prevent a very large amount of Omicron infection (and therefore transmission) even according to the most pessimistic analyses of the data we have, albeit at a much lower rate than previously.

Here’s a theoretical question: if a vaccine would only prevent 20% of cases of an illness, and 100 million people would get the disease without a vaccine. how effective would it be for everyone to get vaccinated? Would you say it’s pointless to bother with a vaccine with only 20% efficacy, or that the vaccine is a fantastic way to eliminate 20 million illnesses?

Because it’s been around long enough to see that it affects people who are unvaccinated at a higher rate than those who are vaccinated? The precise numbers are unclear but this data seems to hold across any studies undertaken thus far. Remember, a great majority of people are vaccinated, so if they are being diagnosed in equal or lower numbers than they are clearly infected at a lower rate.

Fauci might also have been talking about Delta as well which is still a quarter of US cases. Even though Omicron is a larger threat right now, Delta is still massively prevalent.

Science - From day one has said vaccines work and are not 100% effective.

I doubt Delta is still 25% of US cases, considering Omicron was at 73% a week ago and is so dominant over Delta.

I have a hard time understanding these "Breakthrough cases" I was always under the impression that a breakthrough case occurs because the individuals immune system didn't respond well to the vaccine but to have millions not responding to a vaccine especially when you have people who were tested to have had a robust response with high antibody levels yet they manage to get covid? Can it just be that maybe it's not the vaccine?

So what's your explanation? We are dealing with healthy not immunocompromised people who were confirmed to have a robust immune response to the vaccine via antibody testing yet contract covid!
