I don't understand the legality of these mandates. The arguments against and for the mandates all seem to be if the government or OSHA has a right to enforce etc. But they all seem to be ignoring the effectiveness of the vaccine today against Omicron. From what I understand the sole basis why the government can get involved and force mandates is assuming there's a vaccine which will protect the population etc. Are we not past that point where the vaccine is not protecting others rather just protecting yourself?

This clip I believe is from August - even before Omicron.. an answer that has been given is the vaccine shortens the virus hence less time to spread - can we say that in regard to Omicron? Even if there is some small window, you would think it's definitely not enough to legally force the public to vaccinate.

The legality of a mandate is to protect the general public
As per the 1905 supreme court ruling -
Harlan ruled that the vaccination law did not violate the 14th Amendment because the police power of the state may be allowed to constrain individual liberties through reasonable regulations when required to protect public safety
And for OSHA to enforce - it would have to be that it's protecting others etc.

ok - the numbers are a bit misleading - what is their average employee age? I'm sure their employees are generally healthy and don't  have pre-existing conditions.. how about comparing it to a similar airline without a vaccine mandate?

Never flown United? Average age must be around 85

I doubt other airlines are making those numbers public. What's wrong with the comparison to before the mandate?

My only question would be how recently were employees still dying at United. Was it a ton at the beginning of 2020 and if you would take that number and spread it out over the last 2 years, it was an average of 1 a week? Or was it actually more or less one a week throughout?

Otherwise I'm all for it.

March 2020 deaths were a phenomenon in the Jewish NYC community where it wreaked havoc due to our lifestyle and Purim. That's not how the bell curve looks for the rest of the country, so I don't see why it would be that way for United as a whole.
