Mostly I'm just disappointed that Rabbi Taub wrote back then that he regretted what he wrote (after getting called out), but went right back to it.

Dear Editor,

I was dismayed to read Rabbi Moshe Taub’s column, “Daniel’s Deals.” While the author makes some salient points, the thinly veiled attack against “Daniel” - a popular blogger - in the title and conclusion violates some of the very same ethics and Halacha the author purports to safeguard.

The personal attack is not only wrong and offensive, it weakens the author’s arguments and certainly removes him from the high ground he attempts to stand on.

The issues raised in the column have previously been addressed by Daniel in other publications. The author would have been better served to have used the integrity he suggests in his article to contact Daniel before publishing the weakly reasoned article which smacks of grandstanding. At the very least, readers would have benefited from a more nuanced, educated look at the complex matter.

While I certainly did not write with the grace the you displayed, I feel awful that
you read this as an attack of any kind.
I went out of my way to say that the Frum sites have rabbanim and I are not
being questioned as everyone has their own poskim. However that does not
settle the general issue of the shailah.
Certainly, the fact the the purveyor believes it is allowed should not effect how
another person views the matter; Miller's Cheese has rabbanim that allow chalav
stam (as do great poskim) yet we all need are own rabbanim before purchasing
any and all food items.
Yet, because of your concerns the article went out of its way to call the Frum
sites "wonderful".
In other words, unlike you who wanted a public letter published that I should not
write certain articles, I would not purposefully seek to hurt the parnasa of others.
The fact that we named the column Daniels Deals was indeed a pun on the Vort
from Sefer Daniel toward the most famous and popular such site (just like a
column on kashrus concerns of soda may have a Coke pun), but also because,
as YOU mention, that is where everyone reads about these Halachik issues.
One can't have it both ways. Either the site you mention is the go-to source for
these Halachos (and like any sefer halacha would be mentioned by name), or
they have nothing to say about it and I dragged them in to this.
Besides, and again, we dealt with Dans Deals with the respect it deserves,
choosing to only hint to the name of this most popular site and to say that he is a
ben torah with a halachic view of his poskim. only after did I say "some of these
blogs/sites" plural when talking about the issue at hand. I also said I am not
issuing a psak, for I understand, and I hope you do too, that the matter is not a
settled one between poskim. And, as mentioned in the article, this started not
with Dan’s Deals but another site started by a member of my shul and now based

in Teanek (and the questions he asked).
Nevertheless your concern that people would think this is an attack on a specific
site was shared by me, and I therefore sent the article around before publication
to make sure that it would not be read that way. The early draft even had a
postscript (which I would be delighted to share, along with the testimony of my
editor) mentioning Dans Deals directly, the pun, and that this is not an attack on
the site, as well as the direct point, now found in the main article, that Frum sites
and those bnei torah and their own reliable poskim aside, we are discussing the
issue for the customer.
Let me end with the following: we have written before about the need to support
Frum business over that of an Akum. Contra to what you write via my not writing,
I urge evryone to continue to choose Dan Deals over an Akum's site.
However, any halachic questions should be be decided as they always have: in
person and with one's rav.
