That would be a reason to avoid all 3, which I personally do. I have never smoked, I don't drink, and don't do weed. Difference is wine you can drink in moderation without doing any harm. Not saying that won't lead to drinking more and more, etc.

You can consume marijuana in moderation without doing harm, as well.

My reasoning has absolutely nothing to do with society's normalization of pot.
The reason behind why most people smoke pot is because of society normalization. 5 years ago I didn't smell pot where ever I go, now I do.

No, the reason you smell pot is because people are more ok smoking it in public. There are definitely people who only use it now because of normalization, as well. None of this has nothing to do with its safety or if it has greater benefits than anything else that has or has not been banned.

Not saying that won't lead to drinking more and more, but from what I understand the urge to do more and more is much stronger with weed.

I'm honestly shocked by some of what I see on this thread. A devolving, ever-more-immoral world's perspective on something does not in any way change unadulterated Daas Torah. Period.

Having lost a battle against smoking or alcohol does not in any way mean that rabbonim are overreacting when they attempt to fight a war against something that impedes avodas Hashem. Belittling it or saying "everyone does it" is unequivocally wrong.

This is a serious question, not rhetorical. Has a kol kore or blanket ban ever proved an effective strategy?

The kol korei seems to be most worried about youngsters engaging in marijuana. Whatever your opinion is about the actual substance, youngsters having easy access to this "new" product is a bad thing and something (I think) that we all can agree on. Look at how prevalent vaping became amongst young, high school aged boys.

I have seen at kideishim people use abuse Marijuana, and I have seen people use abuse alcohol.  In my opinion alcohol is way worse. How about a kol koreh banning million bottles at a kiddush?

I never touched any weed, and barely drink. So as an outsider I think Marijuana is less destructive than alcohol

A kol korei sets the record straight, that marijuana is wrong. It gives people who want to do what's right a moral compass by which to follow.

I know many people who would try marijuana out of curiosity, but they will refrain if they see that rabbonim say it's wrong.

Let me guess you still believe frum people don't commit suicide or molest children, right?

95,000 people per year in the US die from Alcohol...

Murder and violence are indeed less common in the frum community

Having lost a battle against smoking or alcohol

Has that battle ever been waged in this way and been lost? Or did they pick marijuana and not fight the other battles because smoking and drinking is so entrenched in the community?

If it's the latter, I hate to say it, but they are in for an unwelcome surprise.

Color me skeptical you can find me even one person that thought marijuana was perfectly OK until he read a kol kore that opened his eyes

Heard that was alcohol, not drugs.
Anyways, there's no way this kk was a knee jerk reaction to that. Especially not with the sheer number of signatories on it.

What about all the people reading this thread and wondering, maybe it's not so bad after all.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

That's the easiest part, it doesn't take much to get a bunch or rosh yeshivas to sign on to a KK against marijuana.
