His 2 worded response was "תגיד לזלמן".
confirming
it was probably someone else's idea.
and probably reflective of how a lot of things work in that joint

-1 on the first point.
+1 on the latter. That's how many things work there - blame on someone else

In case anyone's interested, YY Jacobson's giving a 4 part shiur in one of Dan's favorite maamorim, beginning tomorrow morning.

I've recently been listening to rabbi paltiel's shiurim on this maamor. It'll be interesting to compare the two. I'm looking forward to this.

Question addressed to those who didn't learn in תומכי תמימים (but placed in this thread because I couldn't think of a better thread to post it in):

What does מאין יבוא עזרי mean?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

While that is probably an accurate analysis, it has nothing to do with Kratz's gzeiros. I know him well enough to say that it was probably someone else's idea.
The gabai in 770 in the תש's decided that for kavod hatzibor you have to wear a tallis in the main Minyan (just like many shuls around the world)

Monday and Thursday the Rebbe was coming to a Bochurim's minyan, hence no Tallis.
Shabbos is a Baalei Batim minyan, hence it's kovod hatzibur that even a bochur would wear a Tallis.

In ל"ח mendelbaum was the בעל קורא for a few weeks in the main minyan and he wore a tallis

And nearly every Chabad House in the world isn't a Baalei Batim minyan?

We're going in circles here, but yes. I guess Kavod Hatzibur only applies in 770 and non-Chabad shuls.

Another way 770 has diverged from the rest of Chabad? <ducks and hides>

I hope you do realize that many things that are done and practiced in Chabad Houses are done and acceptable due to the circumstances, and would not be done had we not been in golus with תינוקות שנשבו, etc.

By "Chabad Houses," I'm including regular Anash shuls as well.

So let me ask you about those. How common is it to see people davening without a hat and/or jacket (including Shachris with a gartl over the shirt and a tallis, but no jacket) at those?

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

As common as shachris after shkia in 770.

Frequency? I might unfortunately agree.

% of people doing it... that's a totally different question, to which I am sure you know the answer.

It's not the davening after shkiah that makes a person go frei, it's the not wearing a jacket by davening, not going on tahlucha not going to mikva.......

I might too, if I was 60 and still wearing a puff painted yarmulke!

On that note, something I've been wondering about. AFAIK it's pretty much only Chabad where adults commonly wear yarmulkas in all colors and designs as opposed to plain black.

Is there a reasoning or minhag behind this, or is it simply a style/individualistic/random thing?
