Unlike the menorah, for which others argue with the Rebbe's opinion, FWIU everyone agrees on what shape the luchos were. But the Rebbe was insistent that they be depicted accurately, unlike most who use rounded luchos in their logos and whatnot.

Needless to say that this is just אויסגעזויגן פון פינגער.

If you can get your hands on the book בוצינא קדישא מר׳ סענדר דייטש, the right hand man from Satmar Rov who was a gifted writer, he tells the story at length with all details as he was personally involved with it and the legal efforts in the aftermath. Satmar Rov didn't want to know who keeps Yosele and where he is being kept, as he didn't want to have involvement in his abduction case. Only on that Saturday night after the FBI picked him up from the Gertner family he was told the details and started to engage legal efforts to avoid having him handed over to Israel.

Satmar Rebbe was also interviewed by the NY Times days later and told them that although he had no involvement in the case it is clear that according to the Torah he was not allowed to be returned to his freiya parents who abandoned him for years anyway. He also vehemently pointed out in that interview the idiocy of the Israeli government who abducted numerous Yemenite, Moroccan and other children from their frum parents and yet all of the sudden turned the world over in this case.

The magazine tells a story how R Zanvil Gertner asked Satmar Rebbe whether he should continue hiding Yosele and that he advised him to ask Lubavitcher Rebbe. It's a nice story but as I pointed out and is very known by numerous accounts, Satmar Rov didn't know who is hiding him and he explicitly said nobody should tell him (they say he didn't want to lie in case he would be interrogated as he would have been the first address to be questioned). It was only AFTER Yosele has been discovered and taken by the FBI at which point Satmar rebbe was told the story and was asked how to proceed. See attached the first hand account I was referring to above.

Let's just say that the story is brought down third or fourth hand (and with a Yerushalmi in between, וד"ל). I would say that the facts brought down in בוצינא קדישא are more likely to be accurate, though one can never know for certain.
