Whew! Growing up I was never told to keep away from chabad because they might convert me. I was scared for a second there.
But where does the conspiracy  come from? The comments about the Lakewood  concert are full of people saying it's a thing.

Absolutely. Benny Friedman was created in a lab in the basement of 770 expressly for this purpose. The Minnesota story he tells is a cover, they figure no one in the frum world would go to Minnesota to verify.

Unfortunately there are elements of this mentality in every Orthodox group, Chabad as well.

I think Chabad works to promote our “values” (in not finding the right word), to spread Chassidus, both the study and the experience. The concert goes into that category.

Don’t shoot the messenger, I’m not advocating for or defending any of this, just trying to answer the question.
