What's the idea on simchas Torah day, to only do 3 & 1/2 circles around the bimah by hakafos?

Huh? Maybe some people drink and don't make past 3 and a half times around?

That's actually the stated minhag, 3.5 times, but in practice  all the hakafos are recited at once without breaking and you circle however long that takes.

Interesting! So no dancing at all? Or all dancing after the hakafos are all recited?

LOL, dancing before, after, and during. That's just the actual recital of hakafos.

I believe it's actually practiced. (Besides for situations where it's impossible...)

We dance before "Hakafos" begins, then we dance after each of the 3 "Ata Hareiso", then we recite 7 Hakafos consecutively (the one leading the Hakafa will circle the Bima half a round for each Hakafa), then we dance for all 7 Hakafos.

It's an old ashknazi minhag actually, because of a massacre that toll place once in crakow during the 4th hakafa,

Only one Ata Hareisa by day, no?

We said 3.

Does anyone outside of Lubavitch say more than once at any time?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

With all the conflicting minhagim being mentioned, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that outside of Lubavitch they don't do the third hakafah walking backwards.

Not a question but a random observation I had at our Simchas Torah day kiddush. One might be able to beat Kratz catering on the quality of the food. But his presentation is unmatched!
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
