Serious question, though I don't know if anyone here will necessarily know the answer.

I've heard rumors that Shalom Mordechei Rubashkin maintains a distance to the mainstream Chabad community because he feels slighted (or some sort of hard feelings) because Chabad didn't do much to get him released (although Boyarski of Aleph Institute is a Lubabvitcher and IINM he was deeply involved).

Is there any truth to that rumor?

Probably more because he ended up in Monsey and not CH, and chabad didn't run after him as a tzadik when he was released

"Official" chabad didn't get involved for obvious reasons

I don't know him.

I know it may not be a public discussion. I was wondering though if anyone can dispute the claim ("He had wide support") or explain the claim ("Chabad's policy is not to intercede because it can cause blowback to shiluchim around the globe") or say something that I may not have thought of.

ETA: I see kolponko edited his post to say that point. Thanks.

It's clear looking back that the biggest factor (al pi derech hateva) in his release was Alan Dershowitz through R Tzvi Boyarski and the Aleph Institute, which is an "official" Chabad organization.

I personally know of numerous Shluchim who were instrumental in getting senators and extremely high profile people to sign letters of support and get eyes on his case even though it did cause blow back from their communities.

And "official Chabad" celebrated him at the Kinus banquet, and for obvious reasons not everyone was thrilled about that.

As for communal support, his name was mentioned at every farbrengen, public and private, that I went to for about a decade.

So, quite frankly, there is no truth to the "Chabad didn't do much" part of the rumor, though as for his feelings, that you would need to ask him.

Another serious question (yes, after warming up on DDF for 6-7 years, I finally feel comfortable to ask some questions  :P )

Is there any significance to the number 770 besides the symbolism of the address?

You got the lyrics (words in OTnish) wrong.

The correct words (aka Lyrics in English) are:

Oholei Torah Chai, two plus two is five, A B three, one two C, you eat the food you die..

Lol, never heard that version.

But us ULY guys were very jealous of Dovid Malka's food at OT. Then again OOT tuition at ULY was $15,000 less than OT and offered bochur shlichus a year earlier, so my father was OK with me splurging for Melmelstein's or Esther's for dinner when the ULY meatballs were mezonos.
