Makes sense. I wouldn't give my kid a smartphone if I can avoid it.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

There's a mobile TAG office once a week in Crown Heights.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

"Socially acceptable" is a tricky term. It's not just about kicking kids out of school, it's about attitudes toward others. Is a couple holding hands in public "socially acceptable"? I'd wager if you surveyed the Lubavitchers on this forum half would give you a visceral "heck no" kind of reaction, and the other half would say yes. Those saying yes aren't saying that it is Chabad custom or condoning the behavior. They're just saying it's done by some people and/or if it is done, people aren't going to shun, ignore, or chastise them for it.

I definitely don't think it is a "Chabad Minhag" to have a smartphone.

The impression I am getting from this thread
and that is it. You wrote that it more prevalent among Lubavitchers. I am simply curious if there is anyone whose stand would be taken as seriously as the Gedolim who took a stand in the Yeshiva communities and the Rebbes in their communities and if there is not then does that have to do with the higher prevalence and different view.

Let me just respond with a quote attributed to the great chossid of the Alter Rebbe, R' Hillel Paritcher (translated, and possibly somewhat paraphrased): When comparing to the Rebbe, the cat and I are equal.

I think with the bans there was an understanding that there's no or very little redeeming value to a smart phone, so it shouldn't be used.
I think the Lubavitch attitude, based on the Rebbe's encouragement of using technology for the good, is that a smart phone can be very useful. It should be used correctly, but used.
Most yeshivas don't allow their bochurim (up to the grade corresponding to age 20) to have smart phones.  There has been a strong push to parents to filter their kid's devices and their own.

We spoke.

In short, a shabbaton isn't happening because other programs like young professionals or cteen have people taking achrayis for each group, while Chidon doesn't have that. I'm not entirely sure why that can't be assigned to people, but he doesn't seem to have any interest in bringing back a shabbaton, which is a shame.

He also said it just got too big, and that splitting it into multiple grades would mean too many weeks of work.

He agreed that in it's currently format it's a shlep to expect out of towners to spend 3 days coming in for what the trip is now and suggested making a regional trip instead.

He agreed with me that A"K is an afterthought, but the person who works on it has other duties and can't devote more time to it. He didn't have an answer for why the A"K Whatsapp groups and support were discontinued.

I mentioned what a shame that is, as A"K can use this more than anyone, to which agreed, and said that there really should be an A"K kinder shabbaton and dedicated shliach, though how to get to that point was unclear.

No need to be an afterthought, made our own chidon trip rather than spend 3 days going to NYC for a waterpark.

I guess my question is: In places like BP, Williamsburg, Lakewood, Monsey etc. there is a common sentiment that smartphones are a churban to Yiddishkeit. Many people won't own one no matter what. Many moisdos, with varying degrees of enforcement, don't accept kids whos parents have smartphones.
I’m not aware of any mainstream Mosed in BP-Williamsburg- and even KJ & Skvere, that won’t allow parents with smartphones. They require filtering, but no outright ban. There are a handful of tiny Moisdes where only kids of smartphone free homes are accepted.

The Lakewood yeshiva and girls school my kids attend requires a letter from a rov that your devices are needed, in addition to a signed letter from the parents. I assume this is standard in all Lakewood yeshivos and bais yaakovs but I can’t say for certain.

What's the Pshat in "Yakar" - Zu Tefillin? What's the connection to Purim?

Does the Lubavitcher Rebbe Zatza"l have a piece on it?
