I grew up davening in a litvak shul, JJ grew up davening in a chabad shul.

Doesn’t מטעם זה that koplonko quoted explain why the magbiha rolls the Torah (to get the sechar)?

If you actually get the words in the right order it's אלול backwards. Not the only place a רמז is brought of something spelled backwards or out of order.

It was one of the Roshei Teivos that the Rebbe koched in, see lk"s chelek 2 p. 379, hisvadiyus chelek 3 p. 299, along other places.
