ר' שלום שכנא ב"ר נח

That fact was known to me. I didn't know that he was the Maggid's nephew. I never knew that the Tzemach Tedek's grandmother remarried to R' Avrohom Kalisker, and I never heard before that he was מתלמידי הגר"א.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I have no idea what the source for any of this is. It is mostly new information for me.

See: https://www.daat.ac.il/encyclopedia/value.asp?id1=97
It doesn't seem to have a reliable source as far as I can tell

Not judging reliability, but evidence seems scant.

AKA A bubba maisa ;)

Let's just say that if there was veracity to the claim, I would have imagined we would see mention of it in Chabad mesorah. I am unfamiliar (but that isn't evidence). [Unless you want to say that Chabad has an inherent bias against him and would therefore not mention something which would praise him.  :P ]

These type of things happened frequently in the Heim. People would just not mention things that were uncomfortable to them. There is also a family relationship with Skverre and Breslov....

My impression is that Lubavitchers aren’t makpid on zman tfilla for shacharis. Is this accurate? If yes is it discussed somewhere what the reason for that is? Did the Rebbe ever address it?

Can anyone give me some mareh mekomos on the Chabad approach to Zionism / the State of Israel. From what I understand, the fifth (?) Rebbe was strongly against Zionism, but the 6th and 7th Rebbe were more pro (primarily once the State became a reality. I'm happy to be corrected though.

Secondly, is there a specific Chabad approach re the mitzva of yishuv eretz yisroel?

Thanks

I suggest you read יהדות התורה והמדינה which AFAIK was written at the behest of the Rebbe (rumor is that after publication the comment from the Rebbe was נישט גענוג שארף).

Zionism = כפירה.
It is based on כחי ועוצם ידי. (It also crashed on Shmini Atzeres this year).

You are describing secular Zionism. What about religious Zionism?
The Rebbes view about not giving up land seem Zionistic.

Wrong. The Rebbe's approach is purely based on פיקוח נפש (though there are some aspects of חילול השם mentioned in specific situations - see for example the issue of קרבן פסח).

I meant pro as opposed to the rhetoric of his predecessors.
How would you describe the Rebbe's stance?

I suggest you read יהדות התורה והמדינה which AFAIK was written at the behest of the Rebbe (rumor is that after publication the comment from the Rebbe was נישט גענוג שארף).

Thank you for the mareh mekomos.
So the Rebbe supported the State inasmuch as it saved Jewish lives and increased mitzvah observance? Or not even that?

Not mareh mekomos, but a very brief, simplified summary of Chabad's views (according to Rabbi Paltiel, though I don't think there would be much arguement):

Another video with more on the topic:

The Rebbes view about not giving up land seem Zionistic.

How so?

No, he says religious Zionism is Kefira? Why?
Wrong. The Rebbe's approach is purely based on פיקוח נפש (though there are some aspects of חילול השם mentioned in specific situations - see for example the issue of קרבן פסח).
I’d imagine that underpinnings of Geulah shaped this view. Hard to imagine that’s it’s pure coincidence that the more fiery anti Zionists felt exactly the opposite.

I think most religious Jews are Zionistic at this point, even if they won’t admit it.

See above. Doesn’t the Rebbe talk about שלימת הארץ? It’s always from a security standpoint?
