I know a few people who have lost Tfillin and years later they are hopeful it will be found.

Everything points to the Tefillin being brought from israel

My Uber account has receipts going back to 2013.

The OP was an uber driver not necessarily the original driver. That driver could have worked for any service or even pickup street hails.

The owner may not have paid for the ride could have been their work or someone they were traveling with.


Try seeing if any chabad houses in the dmv or even the embassy remembers anyone calling in looking for lost tefillin

The straps look new. Together with this, I suspect it's someone who may not put on tefillin on a regular basis.

I could be that either, the straps got worn out, or, they might have been handed down/inherited, and the straps were replaced.
