Quote from: Wikipedia
Later, Hergé made corrections to Tintin's actions, for example, replacing Tintin's dynamiting
of a rhinoceros with an incident in which the rhino accidentally discharges Tintin's rifle

I’m going to have to ask a favor if someone can sort this story out for me: in the broken ear I don’t understand the ending of the story:(I’ve read it 100x but never actually thought it thru)
-Fetish is in the museum
-gets stolen by tortilla and replaced by a fake fetish. So fetish 1 (real fetish) is gone and fetish 2 in the museum
-we know tortilla is the one who killed balthazar who is a sculptor of wooden things( like fetishes )
-2 guys kill tortilla on the ship and take a fetish from his suitcase. That turns out to be a fake fetish
How did tortilla end up w a fake fetish if he stole it from the museum? Also why did he kill Balthazar?
-in the very end the real fetish was in Balthazar’s house and was innocently taken by his brother and was making copies to sell. How did the real one end up at Balthazar ? Is that why tortilla went to him ?
I’m a bit co fused what happened bere

Tortilla stole the fetish and took it to Balthazar to make a fake to replace it with, then later killed Balthazar, presumably
to keep him from telling anyone. According to the Tintin fanwiki, it isn't explained how Tortilla wound up with a fake fetish;
I'd assume Herge's intention was that Balthazar made 2 fakes and gave both to Tortilla, keeping the real one for himself.

see this is almost exactly what I was looking for. It really isn’t clear that balhatzar was made to build  fake fetish, so I couldn’t just assume it.
Thanks, at least I’m not he only one who thought about this!

As I recall, that was clear enough.

What about the supernatural powers of the Incas, or the aliens?

As I recall, that was clear enough.

it was obvious to you that balthazar was hired by tortilla to make a fake? why? are you assuming he knew it was stolen or had no idea?
idk to me it was not clear . this story had too many ppl who were never pictured it got confusing

the demons taking the thiefs away was simple enough- herge never makes a death obviously shown-its geared towards kids

By the way I’ve finally read the last tintin which completes the set. Tintin in the Congo. It is hilariously horrible . I waited so long and finally got it and it reads like tintin in the Soviet- zero plot no suspense and the coincidences are through the roof.

In a way it was fun to read but I was hoping for one more thrilling adventure from tintin  :-\

(He wants to photograph the giraffes so what does he do? He just shows up in a full blown giraffe costume in middle of the safari 🤦‍♂️ )
