He obviously has a chase checking so is getting the 10 points + 10% bonus with the freedom

Sorry for my ignorance, but I get the 10 points, but what's the 10% bonus?

So should I SM to ensure I am enrolled in the 10*10 Exclusives?
If you are getting the 10 bonus points then you are enrolled and should be getting the 10% as well. Look at your statement.

I believe I have seen this somewhere but couldn't find it in a search, and would like to confirm:
The bonuses for the freedom can be had with a linked chase savings account instead of a checking account.
 Correct?
A savings account requires much less disposable income to be kept fee-free than a checking account.
I recall seeing that with a minimum constant balance of $300 it has no monthly fee.

FWIU the bonus only applies to checking accounts.

If you know someone who has an account, you can just have yours linked to his and you will also have no fee.

Hi and Happy New Year to all. I am trying to understand the go to card thing. Of the 2 mentioned, Sapphire Pref. and Freedom would it be better to use the Sapphire Pref. if I do not have a chase checking? and use the freedom for 5% categories.
Thanks
S

What would linking my cc to someone else's checking account entail?

If I don't get it linked to a checking account, then aside from the 5% categories (I don't spend all that much in those categories) there's not so much point in having the freedom is there?

Linking your checking to his checking would cause your checking to be free. You will then earn 10 pts for every freedom transactions.

He is actually being quite clear. I'm not sure what the issue is. He is saying that if you open YOUR OWN checking account and link it to someone else's checking account you won't have fees and you can link YOUR OWN checking account to your cc

Thanks. Your help is appreciated.

Practically speaking, as far as linking the checking accounts goes, what's the procedure?
Do I have to go into a bank together with the person with the fee-free account?

If you open an account together with someone who has an account that does not have fees attached to it, that joint account will not have any fees attached to it, either. Furthermore, should you then open another account, that account will also have no fees attached to it. (This will work even if that second account which you open will be joined with someone else who does not have bank with Chase.

Is the idea behind the third account just so you have the independence of the account without the holder of the original fee-free account being an account holder?

Yep. In any event, I assume that if you join anyone's cheeking account you would already qualify for the Freedom bonus.

Can I buy giftcards using the Chase 5% gas promotion? I have two such cards, and would like to get the full $3000 spending ability between the cards. I understand I'd have to find a gas station that sells GCs.
