WHen we go to the store and see that it went up we will know who to blame.

It’s a shop not many DDFers shop at…

Typical, credit card minimums can go up, so long as you have someone to blame :P

My guess is that frum shoppers will take longer to respond but you will start to see shopping trends (value and basics vs luxury and extras) similar to non Jewish shoppers going forward.

So they’re blaming slowing demand on shipping delays? The convergence of the two will just mean more inventory glut than any one of them.

Where do you see that? They’re blaming shipping delays for excess inventory, although slowing demand definitely plays a part in it.

But slowing demand is the real issue that they ignore.

That part should be obvious by now. The chiddush for me was how much excess inventory the retailers are holding. Shipping delays are in fact the main cause of excess inventory, regardless of demand. As a shipper, I can tell you there’s so much uncertainty in forecasting which leads to ordering excess inventory to ensure goods don’t run OOS.

On a related note- I’m hearing that many wholesalers haven’t received orders from retailers the past month or 2.

I asked the manager of the supermarket yesterday why the CC minimum didn’t go up when everything else did. I paid $11 for an iced coffee, a pack of gum, and a chocolate bar.
Are stores still charging the same markup? (which btw would mean they are making more money) if their markup went down it would make sense to require a higher minimum as they are not making as much on the 5.00 spent.. I'm waiting for gas stations to start expanding the cc price more than the 10 cents - as they are not getting the 3-4 percent on a dollar like they used to.

I made a joke and people are going all scientific about it. This business with markups and whether the same markup/margin and increased prices means they’re making more money was discussed upthread, it isn’t a given.
