The problem is that in many cases people will refuse to acknowledge even this simple fact. Am I right @Abey?
Ill acknowledge anything you want and you can call it the exact terms as in the dictionary to prove me wrong but I think you are well aware of most peoples definitions of hyper in this sense, trying to convince people that it is not happening is a major part of the administration strategy which I don’t think the American people are buying, we can argue about terms but people notice the high costs of living in their pockets and business.

Probably best to use "inflation". IMHO inflation is high right now and looks like it will get worse.
Do we need a definition for inflation?  :)
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

The word inflation is definitely correct but it doesn’t describe much. Inflation is good. Inflation is bad. It’s healthy and unhealthy. Depends on the rate, the long term outlook, and the economic theories you subscribe to.

I think everyone agrees that the current inflation rate - if sustained - is unhealthy. How unhealthy, the impact it will have, and for how long it will sustain are all interesting topics of discussion. Debating semantics about inflation terminology is kinda boring.

Can we agree that inflation = reduction of purchasing power (or devaluation of the currency)?

Now. In what universe is that good or healthy?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Pretzel?  :)

FTR: A steady low inflation rate some do consider a good.

The only reason it is good is in order to make debt repayment cheaper (borrow today at current currency value, and pay back nominally with devalued currency). And the steady low part is along the lines of frog soup.

It is also seen as the lesser of two evils, with deflation being worse, as that stifles economic activity.

If you believe deflation is bad for the economy, by the same token low inflation is good because it stimulates economic activity and it’s a net positive overall.

Inflation accelerated at its fastest pace since 1982 in November, the Labor Department said Friday, putting pressure on the economic recovery and raising the stakes for the Federal Reserve.

The consumer price index, which measures the cost of a wide-ranging basket of goods and services, rose 0.8% for the month, good for a 6.8% pace on a year over year basis and the fastest rate since June 1982.
