FWIU the backlog is not starting at the ports, it's everything after the ports. There is a shortage of rail cars because they have delays at rail yards throughout the country. I saw somewhere that Chicago had 25 miles of trains waiting to be unloaded at the rail yard, taking containers off the ship doesn't help get it out of port any sooner.
Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. As long as they have work to do I don't see how running the port 24/7 puts pressure on inflation. More work = more goods handled.

The backlog is everywhere. Anything that can be done to reduce the backlog will be helpful. But as was announced yesterday, it wasn't enough to  simply increase the hours at the ports, they had to get all the moving parts to buy into operating extra hours, including truckers, warehouses, etc. It was the right move by the Biden administration, but it should've been put into place last year.

There's no inflation.

Social Security will get a 6% increase.

Social Security will not be able to pay full benefits anymore after 2032 - or sooner?

Why are we letting this country be ruled by 80 year olds?

Because Americans don't want Putin style democracy.

Because that way they won’t have to deal with the ramifications of their terrible policies.

As Rudy said when Joe says "they instructed me not to answer" we gotta find out who is instructing him and ask them those questions

We have heard this 100+ times and it has never been true.  ::)
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Every social security annual benefit statement clearly states that unless changes are made the program won't be able to pay out full benefits as of a certain date (with that date getting closer and closer each time, both by virtue of time passing and by virtue of the program becoming more insolvent). The fact that the warning bells have sounded many times doesn't mean that the crash will never come.

However, with politicians being what they are, they will find a way to kick the can further down the road than anyone can imagine, there will be small tweaks and larger tweaks (one larger tweak I can think is likely to happen is to increase the SS earnings base without increasing the maximum benefit).

Unfortunately for you mathematical projections are neither political nor a matter of opinion. If you want to dispute something all experts agree on, try vaccines

There is a calculator on the SSA website that allows you to try out different ideas that have been proposed to fix the program. You can make a goulash out of ideas you support and see what type of political beliefs you'd need to hold in order to make them happen.

Of all the ideas, I personally feel that increasing the earnings base without increasing benefits is a scam. (Even the 2% segment is a scam in my opinion, kv"ch a 0% segment). If SSA doesn't offer benefits in relation to "premiums" then they should just scrap the entire thing and pay for it out of the general fund.

Which is 100% what they should do. But people would absolutely lose their mind if the general tax rate went up by 12.4%.(including the 0% marginal bracket)... payroll tax being separate deceptive but effective

How about if the US should just start operating like a business and rather than spend more than it brings in, piling on debt for future generations, strive to get to a surplus and create a wealth fund.

If you want to put your money were your mouth is instead of just flapping your gums I am right here. That goes for any other kool-aid drinkers that think SS will run out.

ETA: We all understand the problems SS has. It gets worse every year. The fix to keep it going will not be pretty but don't kid yourself that it will run out.

That's just semantics. Saying it will run out is the same as saying there will be a fix that won't be pretty. In its current form it's not sustainable.

It isn't semantics. If they do nothing it will run out. The chance of doing nothing is less than 0%.

Is it arrogance or lack of self awareness that makes you think that anyone who disagrees with your opinion is a gum flapping Kool-aid drinker?
