I think there is a distinct possibility that there will never be enough consensus for any solution to pass until it actually runs out and misses a couple of months of payments. Eventually a fix will happen.

In a similar way to the elimination of the estate tax in 2010. No one believed it would happen.

Are you aware that the payroll tax intake recently flipped to become less than the outflows at this point?

Do you realize that social security is now starting to draw down its slush fund, which is the beginning of the end?

Have you visited the SSA website and tried out the "fixes"? Do you even know what the possible fixes are?

Apply your argument to climate change and see how ridiculous it is. "The planet has never been destroyed by CO2 emissions so it never will"

They won't miss payments, it just triggers benefit cuts so the payout isn't more than the inflows.

For anyone under 52, SSA is something they will pay more and more for in order to receive far less than promised, just so that the current and near term retirees can have what they were promised.
