As a long time LG critic, I think it's about time!

I was done with them after they sold phones that would have to be frozen to work more than 15 minutes at a time and had to be baked on 550° for 30 minutes to fix and refused to recognize the widespread issues.

They were toast in my eyes after that; their letting users beta test their software in production didn't help matters either.

Interesting point, I didn't even think about that!

You can put "... quitting mobile phone business" in the subject.

For the flip phone market it's more of an issue, they were virtually the only one (with the addition of Kyocera only) that was doing at least something good (Exalt was a solid phone, and Classic is a good cheap option.)

One thing that I can think of is that the carriers (like Tracfone and Verizon, who were most likely the ones commissioning the LG flip phones) will now need to find another decent OEM for those, and maybe it's even be someone better.

The Exalt runs a modified version of Android (or possibly just has significant chunks of Android in it). I don't know about the other models, but I wouldn't be surprised if they also run modified Android. I wonder if JIO will rise to the occasion and take the flip phone market over.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

They all do, the question is just how well the modification is done and the resources of the device itself.

KaiOS has no chance. Seemingly, the reason it exists is to promote the liberal agenda of bringing internet to the less fortunate. From their blog posts, CEOs statements, etc it seems they are too busy patting themselves on the back to make a half decent operating sysytem. The funding comes from Google, who is desparate for a large enough 3rd party OS to prevent android from monopoly issues (look into the Google- kai partnership.... if it works too nicely it could cause serious competition- not what they have in mind :)

Jio is a carrier in India. very suprising if they sell phones in us
