Theyre both wrong

Though I think I understand where your point of view comes from, I couldn't disagree more.
Though you or I may disagree with them, as a sovereign state Israel is entitled to enforce whatever border controls they want.
Play stupid games with immigration, win stupid prizes. If this was the US or the UK, the would-be students would be looking at at least a ten year ban, if not lifetime. The people involved in the "Yeshiva" would be looking at hard time for immigration fraud.
Sorry, what these people allegedly did is self-centered and wrong. Your attendance at a wedding is not worth possibly causing hardship to thousands of families and bachurim.

While I agree with most of what you write, the issue seems to be the inconsistencies and haphazard way of making up rules, with exceptions, protektsia, etc. etc. (along with total frustration with disruptions to many people's lives, without a proper individualized review process). Obviously, none of this justifies making false statements for the purpose of attending a wedding, in a way that could jeopardize the process for many others.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Any other news sites reporting it?
It wasn't a news article. It was written by Amudim. Question is did they ever help someone out, in a way that bent rules, as a favor to a friend or large donor? We all know that they are unbelievable askonim who are the go-to people to help out in real emergencies. But I can't imagine that they were never asked by someone who they couldn't refuse, to help for a non emergency. If they did, then they have no business complaining about someone else trying to bend rules. It's Israel that we are talking about....

There are hundreds of yeshiva bachurim who had their zman broken up because of those who did this before and now may happen again. Not a great idea to have such an albatross hanging from one's neck.

Biggest "culprit" seems to be the Yeshiva that issued whatever documentation they issued. They are actually shooting themselves in the foot.

Probably a Yeshiva that doesn't really exist anymore.

So how are they able to issue any documents for permits/visas?

Its not just bachurim. It's families stuck away from home. It's fathers or mothers who went to a family simcha or to visit ailing relative that get separated from their families for an extended period of time.
It's selfish and shameful.

Would you say that if it was your sons wedding?

A parent can get a permit to go to his sons wedding without being a student.

If they were, they would be enrolled already in a Yeshiva.  They wouldn't need to break the rules, and this wouldn't be a scandal.

I'm saying it can apply both ways... So they would not be students.

Seems like they made it in despite Amudim catching it.
Hope they get the 5 year ban.

Anyone know the type of wedding it was to garner so much desire to come in?

One of the news sites said it was in Kfar Saba FWIW.
