No one forged student visas, people got student entry permits for non students, big difference.

"Falsified." Better?

Oh my goodness. I can't believe the mental excercises people are doing to justify their behavior. Wow. Unbelievable.

How can you say lying is not ok, but maybe there's a loophole to forge student visas? Explain the logic to me, please.
Technically, it's not an outright lie, because they will be learning something from their Rebbe when they're there...

They've been doing the exact same mental exercises for the past year - Cuomo, Deblasio, Fauci, Bibi...

Ppl look at stuff differently.

Not justifying but understanding that not everything can be looked thru 1 lens shall be key.

No. It is wrong, plain and simple. I am the first one to see things from a different perspective, but there is no excusing this behavior.

Let's get the facts straight. There were very few permits that were outright 'sold'. There were some mosdos, who had big donors that want to come to EY, and they facilitated their entry ishur through the student visa/ishur.

This simply isn’t true

This was more than just a favor being done out of hakoras hatov, it's sort of like a business deal.
This all goes back to the tzionim being brainwashed that the chareidim are takers. The fact is that the Israeli economy would not survive without the money being poured in by frum people all over the world. Every block has a shul/yeshiva which was paid at least in part by hundreds of millions of dollars of donations annually. The frum tourists are essential to the economy.
Now the current law does allow for entry for economic reasons. So why isn't this part of the economy recognised?

What constitutes a student to you? A guy doing Amazon and learning morning seder is more of a student than a balabos coming in for Lag Baomer? You can move this whole thing into the morals thread. If a moisad declared someone a student then it's on them. The person coming in hasn't broken any law. And I'm not sure there is any requirements of any criteria for a moisad to have. You can say that half the people living here on a student visa are being fraudulent to some degree. This is a unique situation that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world and is very hard to judge.

Lol. The Israeli economy produces ~$400B a year. The annual government budget alone is close to $150B. Do you seriously think it depends on a few hundred million dollar in donations?

FYI Israelis spend more money on tourism abroad than tourists spend in Israel (and that includes all tourists, not only your frum saviors). This past year has proven tourism is far from necessary for Israel. It's less than 5% of GDP. And forex isn't a thing, the Bank of Israel bought over $30B just to keep the shekel from getting even stronger than it did (essentially a windfall of $30B that didn't cost anything), while total annual tourism spend is much less that that.

Now the current law does allow for entry for economic reasons. So why isn't this part of the economy recognised?

Looks like you view Ottisville as a marker of bad morals. Some will view it as the price of doing business.

Fair enough. My point was the current system is so open door I'm not in the least surprised. If they want to crack down in earnest what does it have to do with covid. This is their way of sneaking under the radar by labeling it covid. They are basically not recognizing their own vaccination. Absurd.
