I created a complete project for timers but there's no relation to melacha plug. Step 2 is joining the two together and adding in Jewish based timers

1. I'm using open source software, so no real changes there
2. Definitely, the calculations on there should be able to last forever. There is no commercial smart plug with a RTC on it so that will have to be custom made. (RTC is a real time clock that keeps track of the time)
3/4 I don't think that many people would be interested in a single purpose plug. But I thought about it too.

In short the greatest part of it is the open source software and the customization it allows.

I think there would be a lot of people interested if it was easy to set up. Plug, switch and Module versions.

In order for that to work it would probably need to be closed source and sold at a premium, two things I don't prefer. It's currently very cheap to get on board, easy to mess with and is flexible with endless possibilities.

Why would that be? why can't you just buy a couple of these and preload the file and then sell it?

The current user experience is not very user friendly, also no real app control. I'd rather show anyone how can they do it themselves, then have that hassle.

Perhaps this could be sold by on of the other shabbos friendly brands like Kosher Innovations, it should specifically not have a user interface... Should require no internet... Plug and play

That's not a great idea. Every time you move you need to buy a new device? Or if one week you take in Shabbos early how can you change the setting?

If you have a device preset with Lakewood area zmanim set with a drop of leeway (example: 20 min before Skiyah to 75 min after for mid Lakewood) should be good for the whole Lakewood area.

Similarly, for CH, with Alter Rebbe zmanim for CH area.

Etc. etc.

The tech-savvy can still do it the old way.

You can bet that if I let perfect be the enemy of the good this project wouldn't exist. As a matter of fact this project is all a precursor to another project of mine.

Agreed.

I think your missing the broader picture here. It's simply to customize existing hardware and software to make it Jewish friendly. Not to reinvent the market or make money  off people. In this regard, the typical iron triangle is somewhat wrong in the sense that cheap is lots of times better then premium.

Yup and there are companies out there the I'm sure have a good idea of what the demand is. I'd guess that most people don't see anything wrong with the typical smart home products and wouldn't pay a premium. The example of automating the magnet on a fridge door is not plug and play to begin with..

Is it just me who doesn't want a motion sensor in my house running on Shabbos even if it's not triggering anything? Maybe, but I'm willing to bet not many people know the difference.

A timer that runs every pesach to keep your lights on at night? A timer that can automatically set when your accepting in Shabbos early each year?

What other scenarios would you like to be able set a timer based on?
