@Yo ssi Is there a way to load it before putting it in place? there doesn't seem to be a battery.
If you'd like you can make a test using any cheap extension cord (obviously run at your own risk).

Btw code in github has a bug, I'm fixing it and making things a bit easier soon.

I tested the melachaplug on a light and installed it under my dishwasher. It is awesome. But even more so, @Yo ssi is awesome. He has seemingly endless patience for my elementary questions and issues and treated me like a paying customer (or better) even though it was a free service.

Ok, so here's the TR:
Part 1 (frustration)

The beginning of the story can be found in posts in this thread...
So, I got this, and try as I might, I could not get past the 3rd step in the instructions

I had no idea what it meant to "look in your router" and I kept resetting the device to try to find it in properties and checking control panel etc. but I could not find the new IP. The online instructions weren't much better, as when the reload happened it didn't show the new IP address either.

Part 2 (solution)

At this point, I was at a complete loss. So, I PMed Yo ssi, who graciously walked me through the process via text message...
I needed to download Fing to find what the updated IP address was and enter that into my browser.
Once I did that I sent a screenshot of the configure template and Yo ssi customized the files for this type of device and emailed it to me. I needed to first load a mini file and type something in the console options and then load the full file. Once I did that, it showed up again in the wifi list as melachaplug. I connected to the wifi and put the IP in the browser and voila I had a functional melachaplug.

This whole time it was connected to a novelty candlestick dusk-to-dawn lamp with the sensor covered so it should be on whenever the smart-switch was on. I tested the toggle a few times and it worked.
Yo ssi encouraged me to wait to see if it works over shabbos with the zmanim, so I removed the tape and left it by the window in a room with the light off and it was off for the whole shabbos.

So, after shabbos, I installed it under my dishwasher.

Sooo Classic!
The first שבת after installed, for the first time, my baby showed 0 interest in the dishwasher.
(So, I assume it worked, but didn't see it.)

It currently uses internet to get the time and date.
Most devices don't have a way of telling time on there own, that requires a RTC or gps clock to be added. So it can technically run offline but practically most devices require it to be online at least for the initial setup.

(The melacha plug will assume it's Shabbos until it gets a verified date and time)

You need a constant feed of TIMEDATE?
I was hoping we could do initial setup using a hotspot and move offline afterwards since we have no internet at home

I haven't tested it that way but it should keep the time as long as it's on, meaning it will loose it as soon as it looses power. Feel free to try it and report back

Why are you surprised? You did your hishtadlus, the effect comes from Hashem and not from your hishtadlus.

Another use case is to disconnect the magnet sensors on fridges on Shabbos and Yom Tov

Can you explain in simple terms how hard it would be to install something like this? Thanks
120 characters? Hmm, I wonder what I could write with 64 characters. Boy, it's gonna be hard to use up 15 characters. W-

I would say it's fairly advanced, it can only work if you are able to access the cables coming from the magnets on the fridge (it sometimes is on top and easily accessible)

diy level or not worth the risk of destroying the fridge?

I don't believe there is a major concern of breaking anything, the way the magnets on the fridge work is it's an electric magnet that when closed completes the circuit, so you gotta complete the circuit without the magnets.

I will try to write up a full explanation with pictures sometime.

@Yo ssi which decora switch would work with your code?
also is there no plug that has a small internal battery to keep time? like the plain old fashioned digital timers, if it loses power, it still keeps time

Any switch which is esphome compatible, check out their website for more info (some can be bought pre-flashed). I'm not aware of any that come with a RTC.

What is it your looking to do? Do you have a home assistant instance?

looking for a shul for 2 different things
1) a switch that controls a solenoid valve to shut the hot water in the shower by the shkia (maybe another switch to shut the lights a few minutes earlier as a warning)
2) a plug to shut off a comercail seltzer machine from shkia friday till tzes on motzei
