RSV is now rampant in Lakewood. Chemed ran out of tests.

Daycares (CHS) are now requiring negative tests for children with symptoms - probably leading to a scarcity.

My 2-year-old had a strong cough and cold since Thursday, and fever before Shabbos. Cough and cold have mostly subsided, and he had no fever in all tests after Shabbos. Any reason I should keep him home from daycare tomorrow? He's more than 24-hours without fever. If it was RSV (didn't test), does that remain contagious longer than a regular virus?

Daycare/playgroups are superspreaders with all these viruses. It's mainly the working mothers who send their toddlers in playgroup and some cannot afford to stay home when the child is sick so they send their kid anyway. People gotta learn to be more responsible.

Many years ago my wife asked Dr. Shanik if there's something seriously wrong with the baby since she gets sick so often. He responded "does the child go to a babysitter? That's why she gets sick so often, there's nothing wrong with her."

We've seen this all the time. Especially when they aren't going to a babysitter and just start playgroup above two, that's when the problems start all of the sudden.

Heads up, local pediatrician in CH Brooklyn told me they’re seeing a lot of hMPV virus going around, and currently have five patients in the practice hospitalized in pediatric ICU.

Is it possible for a child to get RSV twice?

Why do you ask? Apparently these viral panels to determine which respiratory virus is in play are very expensive (and insurance doesn’t always pay), and by and large with viruses it’s the symptoms that are treated anyway, so often times it isn’t always confirmed which virus it is.

From my limited understanding I was under the impression that once a child overcomes RSV they are unlikely to catch it again.

FWIU it's seasonal. Kids/Adults often get it every year.

My son tested positive for hmpv. It seems that half of the playgroup got it.

Bh he is doing fine.
