I don't really have an alternative to do insurance, simply bec no-one seems to want to ensure me (I am in a "war zone" after all) - so cheaper or not, I'll still take it.
What I don't understand is how the payout works. It seems like they only pay out at the time or an orphans wedding, (and not immediately after death ch'v) and only to buy an apartment.
Also, seems like they only payout if they deem it "necessary" (and the rich Americans don't reeeaaally need it...)

The funds given at the time that the children get married because that's exactly what this tzedaka is - a dignified way to collect for the chassunos of yesomim, and for better or worse, buying an apartment is an intrinsic part of an Israeli-Chareidi shiduch.
I wouldn't worry about the rich American part, unless you really are a RICH american. They'll look at your finances, and if you dont have money, you dont have money.
The Lemichyasam/Lekalkelasam programs are a dignified way to collect for the monthly upkeep of yesomim and IINM all of the various tzedakos say that they will distribute regardless of the family's financial situation.
There is also this one https://en.kyachad.co.il/ but they also seem to be more as a payout for orphans to cover wedding expenses at the time of the wedding
I will be moving back to America within a few years, so for me this is more of a temporary thing so that I'm covered for now and would want payout now (and not at the time when my children are getting married)
Again, it's tzedaka not insurance, and dont expect it to pay out in the same format as insurance.
Yachad looks to be the exact same thing as the others, just targeted at the chardal, dati communities
