What about if you pay inside with a cashier and you stick a GC or two in with the gas purchase?

How would they be able to tell?

I made 1 purchase at BP 2 days ago, just got an email:

Congratulations, you completed all qualifying transactions on your Card ending in *****.

Thank you for shopping at BP. Your statement credit will appear on your American Express account in 3-5 days.

I can confirm that it does.  Credits posted in 2 days for each of three different fill-ups. 

Also - I filled up and purchased a car wash at the pump.  I got a 5% credit for the total, not just the gas purchased.  My transaction details online have the gas and car wash separated.
