Biden called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to offer his condolences over the “heartbreaking” events in Meron, saying authorities were working to confirm reports that American citizens were among the dead and wounded.

“The United States stands with the people of Israel, and with Jewish communities the world over, in mourning the terrible tragedy at Mount Meron,” Biden said in a statement.

“The loss of life among worshipers practicing their faith is heartbreaking. I have instructed my team to offer our assistance to the government and people of Israel as they respond to the disaster and care for the wounded. We are also working to confirm reports that American citizens may have lost their lives or been wounded during the religious observance of Lag B’Omer,” Biden says.

Of all the pictures I have seen, the two on the left illustrate best how this was a disaster waiting to happen and it was only nissim preventing it from happening until now.

the fact that the ramp is metal also makes it way more slippery in such a situation ...

Having been down that corridor on Lag Beomar several times, this was unfortunately inevitable. I remember that there is such a mass of people trying to squeeze through the tiny room with the matzeivah, that it just felt like a massive negative pressure vacuum sucked me in one side and spit me out the other, without any control of where my body would actually go. At times it feels like youre so wedged between people and your feet are actually off the ground.

Looks like the same kid from the video below - look at bottom center at 0:13 seconds in the 2nd video, kid is wearing a black hat, being held by his father.
Huge miracle the kid made it out of there.

From my understanding it's even worse than what your image shows. There were metal walls installed alongside the steps and the floor in the spots I marked in red. No one had anywhere to move except towards the stairs until the cops started ripping down the walls making space to exit through the sides.

It's impossible, I've been on that ramp it's metal and slippery. More so because people threw water bottles for the people that were fainting.
