Trouble with a BA booking on AA metal (big problem)

i booked a flight from ORD to LAX on a Saturday night. In the BA confirmation email it says that the flight leaves at 21:25 PM which is 9:25 on flight # 607
   
From the email:

Just called BA and they said that AA cancelled the later flight so they automatically put me on the earlier flight. Its a good thing that i checked this because i received no notification of this!!   
Apparently AA is notorious for cancelling flights right before Christmas...

Not much for me to do... There are no later flights, and no flights that leave the next day early enough to catch the flight to LIH. There's no other week for me to go (*they offered to change my flight for another time) because im going with 2 other people who don't have the same vacation as me. They also offered to put me on a flight the next day and extend push the flight home to a day later, but that won't work as i have to be back home for shabbas.

Sooo were just gonna have to take the 7:40pm flight and wing it (pardon the pun)
Shabbas ends at 5:56 and i live about 25 mins away from the airport....

Can't get them to compenstate you for an airport hotel on shabbos? Might be worth spending it, especially if there's a Radisson nearby.
Don't see what's to be nervous with though, 1:20 before departure is plenty for a domestic flight. (U can buy a refundable business class tkt to get thru premium security if you're anxious)

omg lol worrying about cancelling the ticket would make me 10x more nervous!

Doubt they would compensate for a hotel stay. BA is very hard to deal with IME.
But regardless, we don't really wanna stay in a hotel

its good for meeting spending requirment, amex annual $200 air fees refund, bouncing balance to next billing cycle, lounge access for AsherO, and express security for Yellow.
Oh, and to buy a tkt before making a final decision.

I need to meet a spending threshold soon and would like to do this.  Is thete anything specific I need to know? Are all tickets refundable?  Is it easier to do this with a lower priced ticket than a higher priced ticket?

From experience, make sure your bags are packed in the car before shabbas.

Don't leave anything (not picking up people, not packing, not food), nothing for after shabbas.

Just get in the car and go.

its not 100% clear a refunded charge will count towards SR. Check the amex 200 thread, basically all flights origanting in the US are easily refundable online.
If you want to be absolutely certain it will count, buy a refundable ticket and don't cancel it until the bonus points post.

I've reading about this in the amex 200 thread - you did have a bunch of helpful posts over there. I was asking here bec I wanted to know which flights it works for.
Btw I plan on doing the refund after the points post. Question is how long does it take for charge to post? Actually the real question is if the spend amount needs to be posted or if its pending its good enough to be counted towards threshold.  . ?

I hear the questions with the spending thershold, I simply don't know.
What happened IME w DL was that although DL refunded the charge while it was still pending, the charge goes through, and there's also a refund. Tzivi Dinim. FWIU a refund triggers a clawback, but not (this part Dan confirmed) a cancellation klappei spending thershold.
The bonus should post right awa (I'm pretty sure it requires the charge to post & pending doesn't count), though I wouldn't bet on 24hrs.

Yep thats the plan . Although i personally would be nervous to leave all the bags in the car over shabbas (there was recently a car break in near me) and the frozen food would need to be packed after shabbas. everything else would be packed beforehand Iyh

Wat do u mean "after grace period" ? As far I know the bonus points post when the statement closes. That's why I'm concerned about doing refund before statement closes. OTOH It needs to be refunded within 24 hours, so that's why I'm not sure this is going to work for me.

The SR is not through cancelling within 24 hours but by buying a refundable ticket, something Dan has urged for cation as there can be exclusions etc. etc.

I assume that the benefits for AsherO and Yellow were also referring to a refundable ticket, and not a cancilation within 24 hours.

correct about AsherO as that's VS & dunno about their grace policy
Yellow can use the 24hr cancellation, it works well after check-in as reported on the forums. (He won't need to check in though)
