This one is pretty famous.
Almost all of the old Uncle Moishy songs are parodies of non Jewish ones.

There are two things that bother me.
One, that they are copying someone else's work. That annoys me quite a bit.

Two, that the artist is obviously not up to par with regular frum standards since they listened to the original song. That reflects on their level of frumness. Which instantly annoys me that they are openly masquerading as someone that they aren't.

Which Jewish music artists do you listen to? There's nary a Jewish music artist who hasn't borrowed from non Jewish music

Are you a singer? CMIIW but I believe singers benefit when their songs are sung by others.
In general people in the art compliment other people. It benefits everyone.

Any, even non Jewish artists. The point still usually stands. An artist(s) like maccabeats it's only pet peeve 1 for the most part. But others are both.

Of course they benefit because people know the original singer. By nonjewish music most don't the original artist.

Regarding Two, what if the artist didn't write the song, but as is often the case, bought it from a composer? You're painting with a broad brush saying that the artist is obviously not up to par....

True so either the composer or the singer.

There's royalties and there's exposure. John Smith's tune being used by Reuven Shimon Ben-Levi likely produces neither.
Do you want to play a board game, digitally or in Lakewood NJ? PM me. (Can be asynchronous, i.e. take turns whenever)

Probably gonna butcher the details but I've heard (second hand or worse for what it's worth) that Lenny Solomon (schlock rock) tells a story that someone representing Billy Joel contacted him  and said you're using our songs, we want our cut. They make up a time and the lawyer comes to his office, sits down and gets his stuff set up. First question, how many albums have you sold? 5k (making up the number, don't remember the details). The guy packs up - have a nice day - and walks out. Not worth their time.

Shoutout to Lenny Solomon for putting all the Shlock Rock albums on streaming. I know he hasn't done it for a while due to royalty issues, so I am happy he worked it out. Achashverosh!!

A bit as an intro here

ETA: if you don't have Spotify, that's Benny Friedman's Nagila V'Nismcha album, intro to No Lyrics
