3. It's interesting how he praises the Iranis. Absent Israel the Iranis would be at their throat as their are more Sunni killed by Shia than Jews killed by the two factions combined.

There has to be a reason it's being done publicly. Either Iran asked them to for some reason (losing influence in the ME?), or Hamas is using this public declaration as leverage somehow to get something from Iran.

When it's done for that purpose, it's a statement. You don't pull personnel as a sign of protest unless you think you're being ignored. The US hasn't given any indication that they feel Israel is in the wrong, and they most definitely would have taken many more steps before pulling people from the country to let everyone know if they had an issue with the way thing were being handled.

FTR: IMO the problem is the excessive panic, similar to COVID-19. Precautions and safety are important. Excessive Panic can sometimes be worse that what those protections are trying to protect us from. Getting to safety in a calm way is the right thing to do.

The longer it escalates the more likely that becomes. Since the Palestinians aren’t a sovereign nation it technically isn’t a war and the rest of the world isn’t coming running to broker a peace accord (yet).

Just like Hamas tried to keep things below a certain threshold, so to will Israel do so (and better than Hamas did) when they enter Gaza, so that it doesn’t escalate beyond “the territories” to a conflict with the nations sponsoring the terror.

Not exactly. The Iranians (and obviously separately, Erdoğan) are vying for hegemony over the Islamic world. They are using Al-Aqsa as their battle cry or cause (I'm sure someone else can come up with better terms). The "Palestinians" are simple pawns at the service of either of those. And those "Palestinians" simply thank the hand that feeds them.

The "Palestinians" are a political carve-out from the Levantines.

What you’re saying might be true in the bigger picture but it doesn’t change how things look from the Palestinian perspective. The Iranians have arguably done more for Hamas than Hamas has done for the Iranians.

Or to say it differently, Hamas wants to do what it’s doing anyway, the fact that it also suits a broader Iranian strategy at no extra cost to Hamas makes it a win-win.
