@CGR
Thanks! Was going to start a thread on this now.
I have a full writeup in my signature link but here are some details:

The program provides:
-up to $50 per month towards broadband service
-a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet (applicants must contribute $10-$50 toward the purchase price)
This program stacks with the FCC’s existing Lifeline Program, so you can receive both Lifeline and the Emergency Broadband Benefit on the same service.

The program will end once funds have been exhausted, or 6 months after the Department of Health and Human Services lifts the Covid emergency- whichever comes first. Your provider will notify you when your benefit is scheduled to end.

At least one household member must be enrolled in one of the following programs for the household to qualify:
-Lifeline program
-Free and reduced-price school lunch program (students who were enrolled in the 2019-2020 school year but are currently homeschooled are also eligible)
-Federal Pell Grant during the current award year
-Experienced a substantial loss of income since February 29, 2020 (additionally, total household income must be below $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers for the 2020 tax year)
-If your broadband provider is currently running a low-income or covid program that is income based and you qualify, you can qualify for this as well

The Emergency Broadband Benefit application opened on May 12, 2021. There are 3 ways one can apply for this program:
-Through your broadband provider
-Online via the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program website (https://www.getemergencybroadband.org/#)
-By calling 833-511-0311 and mailing in the necessary documents
If you are rejected AA (apply again ;) )

$50 Off Internet (with eligibility regs)
« on: May 12, 2021, 09:01:07 AM »
https://www.foxbusiness.com/technology/emergency-program-give-people-money-off-internet-bill

Quote
Americans can begin applying for $50 off their monthly internet bill on Wednesday as part of an emergency government program to keep people connected during the pandemic.

The $3.2 billion program is part of the $900 billion December pandemic-relief package. The government is increasing spending on broadband as the pandemic made stark that millions of Americans did not have access to, and could not afford, broadband at a time when jobs, school and health care was moving online.

It's unclear how long the money will last but it's expected to be several months. Tens of millions of people are eligible, although the Federal Communications Commission, which is administering the program, did not specify a number.

For example, your household is eligible if you receive food stamps, have a child in the free or reduced-price school lunch program, use Medicaid, or lost income during the pandemic and made $99,000 for single filers, or $198,000 for joint filers, or less.

There are other eligibility requirements, too — see getemergencybroadband.org to find out if you qualify.

You can get the discount even if you owe your phone or cable company money. That's important because some people have been barred from low-cost plans offered by internet service providers when they owed their service provider money. More than 800 cellphone and home-internet companies are participating, including AT&T, Charter, Comcast, T-Mobile and Verizon.

It's part of the Lifeline eligibility, but you're right, it does make senses to add separately for those that aren't aware of Lifeline.

Here's the list of other programs that qualify:
-Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps
-Medicaid
-Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
-Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
-Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit

CEP students also qualify
CEP is when your household does not qualify for reduced price school meals, but since a certain % of the school does qualify, all children qualify.

We received a one time snap card last year, I think because the school gave it to everyone, so this is
USDA Community Eligibility Provision qualification?

If you're eligible, think about your services and where it would make most sense to get it. In my case:
My Optimum bill: $48.49
My Verizon bill: $100+

Verizon is offering the EBB on mobile services as well (Unlimited plans only), as long as you use your device's internet at least once a month.

If applying at Optimum my bill would be $0, I'd lose out on $1.50 ( >:(), and I'd have no path to the $100 device benefit, since optimum doesn't offer that.
With Verizon I can get the full $50/month benefit, plus get a $100 device discount.

You have a backup internet for your house?
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

No. Verizon was referring to Verizon Wireless (which is EBB eligible)

Looks like T-mobile (and Metro by T-mobile) also participate.

I tried to apply and got "Sorry, an error occurred or this page isn't available.", looks like they're swamped with applicants.

If you got PEBT you're enrolled in the lunch program and therefore eligible.
