@CGR
Thanks! Was going to start a thread on this now.
I have a full writeup in my signature link but here are some details:

The program provides:
-up to $50 per month towards broadband service
-a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet (applicants must contribute $10-$50 toward the purchase price)
This program stacks with the FCC’s existing Lifeline Program, so you can receive both Lifeline and the Emergency Broadband Benefit on the same service.

The program will end once funds have been exhausted, or 6 months after the Department of Health and Human Services lifts the Covid emergency- whichever comes first. Your provider will notify you when your benefit is scheduled to end.

At least one household member must be enrolled in one of the following programs for the household to qualify:
-Lifeline program
-Free and reduced-price school lunch program (students who were enrolled in the 2019-2020 school year but are currently homeschooled are also eligible)
-Federal Pell Grant during the current award year
-Experienced a substantial loss of income since February 29, 2020 (additionally, total household income must be below $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers for the 2020 tax year)
-If your broadband provider is currently running a low-income or covid program that is income based and you qualify, you can qualify for this as well

The Emergency Broadband Benefit application opened on May 12, 2021. There are 3 ways one can apply for this program:
-Through your broadband provider
-Online via the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program website (https://www.getemergencybroadband.org/#)
-By calling 833-511-0311 and mailing in the necessary documents
If you are rejected AA (apply again ;) )

I did.
Does your address include apt or floor?

Maybe they don't approve because on my optimum bill is written 3FL and on my ID is written #3 ;)

I don't personally know anyone else that was either approved or denied through Optimum...

me too. and in fact it does match?

Optimum?
Does not match, I moved. I called recon and the guy tells me go to the DMV and update your ID and come back

Per lifelines guidelines your ID doesn't have to match the address, you can proof address with utility/tax bill etc

I filed a FCC complaint

If I can vote without ID why do I need for this???

Same here, is that the only recourse?

If optimum told me to fly a kite then I assume complaining via the FCC is the only option

Or any other ideas?

Can’t you use passport as ID? It doesn’t have an address on it.

I did.
I was also approved by optimum. But do you or anyone else have any idea how long it takes for the credit to start showing up? They told me 1-2 billing cycles.

I filed a FCC complaint

I got a call yesterday from Altice Corporate, and the guy said "you know you are responsible to have your drivers license updated?"
'yah none of your business'
"the govt denied your application"
'not true - I was told by optimum that they are not sending my application to the fed'
"you can go to this website and apply http://getemergencybroadband.org/"
'actually that website tells you to apply thru a service provider, you can not apply on that website'

I updated the FCC about this call, and got another call today from someone that sounded more helpful and "was looking into this matter how they can work on it"

In NY when you file for an address change with the DMV they don't send you a new card.

Same in NJ. They send you an encrypted PDF with a letter that is considered proof of change of address.

Anyone have any idea how much optimum is giving off for the EBB program? I called them to get internet, and they said the bill is $58, but they can't answer me how much the credit will be until the 2nd billing cycle. It seems really crazy to install optimum and then find out how much the discount will be... they told me on the phone that it's up to $50 but not for sure will I get 50 off. Anyone know? Thank you!

According to the FCC it's a $50 credit, but no refunds if your bill is less than that.

it says UP TO $50, but not guaranteed that much, and optimum doesn't want to tell me how much it is going to be, was just wondering if anyone actually got the discount already from optimum and how much of a discount they got. Not really looking for assumptions just true experience, thanks. Anyone know?

It's not guaranteed because when the funds run out, the credit stops.
It's $50/month for as long as the program is viable.
