The chart shows consumption took off in Q2 of 2020. That is the same time gas prices started to rise.
Am I reading the chart wrong?

Other than a few weeks' dip at the height of COVID prices remained pretty stable between 2.10 and 2.20 until December. That was a period of about 6 months.  So, believe it or not, the data cut off from the R's chart was actually of flat prices. That surprised me.

I was referring to the gas market, I didn't want to use the word production because a pipeline is not necessarily producing rather making it more accessible

Oil is a commodity, the free market dictates the price. As long as they don't collude to keep prices high they can't be blamed.
