Because the technology is nowhere near there yet.
Because these are fossil companies and nuclear is also opposed by the enviromentalists. There was nobody there to promote it.

We aren't anywhere near entirely there. Look at this screenshot I just took of the PJM fuel mix (PJM is the power grid for NJ, PA, OH, DE, MD, VA, WV, and parts of some other states). Even now when the load is relatively low we have 60% coming from coal and NG. Other than nuclear, renewables barely make a dent.

Considering that it didn't even hit 4,000MW today, it only brings up renewables slightly. Still overwhelmingly coal and NG with a decent showing from nuclear.

Certainly. This illustrates why we are not there yet. We still need electricity at night, when it is cloudy, when there is snow on the panels, etc. It is also not cost effective without very high subsidies.
