Gas prices continue to rise, and are now at their highest level in seven years, according to the AAA Gas Price Index.

The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline rose six cents over the past week to hit $3.38 on Monday, up $1.22 from a year ago, or an increase of 57 percent.

With an average tank size of 18.5 gallons, it now costs drivers an extra $22 every time they fill up - and even more in states where gas prices are higher than the national average.

They need to open the flood gates. We have more than enough oil in this country to last many years.

The U.S. holds more oil reserves than anyone else in the world, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Venezuela. That conclusion comes from a new independent estimate from Rystad Energy, a Norwegian consultancy. Rystad estimates that the U.S. holds 264 billion barrels of oil, more than half of which is located in shale.

It would help if this administration didn't try to block oil production and delivery. (Keystone XL and many other pipelines as well as the ban on new drilling permits etc.)

Environmental concerns aside (though those should certainly be a factor here too), can those 264bbl be extracted in a cost effective way using current techniques?
