Selling Amex $20 Restaurant / Dining Credits
« on: May 15, 2021, 04:14:49 PM »
Hi,

I have my $20 monthly restaurant credit from my Hilton Aspire card.

I am stuck out of the country and can't use them so I am putting them up for sale / trade.

I would prefer a trade with someone who can be my ink recycling agent on the ground at Office Depot/Officemax (OD) and Staples. My proposal is that I will send you empty ink cartridges and each month you recycle 10 of them at OD and 10 of them at Staples. Further, I will send you an OD gift card and when you go to recycle the ink cartridges, I will tell you which item I need you to buy (usually batteries). I may (likely not) send you a shipping label and ask you to drop something that I asked you to buy in the mail for me. Ideally we do this regularly for several months until the borders open up and I can come back.

Alternatively, I will sell the $20 restaurant credit for $18.

DETAILS
Enroll in this offer to earn a $20 statement credit each month you spend $20 or more on eligible U.S. restaurant purchases with your Card. Whether it's dine-in, takeout or delivery, you can redeem this offer each month through December 2021. This is in addition to the Points you already earn with your Card. Terms Apply.

Maybe it’s just me but this sounds like a lot of hassle/time for $20.

People used to do it for $5 on eBay before. Can't find anyone anymore.

If someone is doing the ink recycling at Office Depot / Staples anyway, this is just gravy.

I agree that if you are not doing this anyway or you have other things to do, it isnt worth the time. This is more of a "when you recycle your ink at OD, please recycle mine at the same time"

I can confirm that this works.

Quote
While US-based cardholders would find it pretty effortless to score the credit each month with a simple restaurant or food delivery purchase, cardholders based in Canada will need to get a little more creative.

According to data points from last year’s temporary measure on the Hilton Aspire Card, in which the US$250 resort credit was expanded to US restaurants as well, the easiest way to cash out this credit every month will be to load a Starbucks US mobile account and spend the funds in Canada.

To do this, head to the Starbucks.com desktop site (not Starbucks.ca) and create a new US account separate from your Canadian account. Then, log into this US account on your Starbucks mobile app, and you’ll be able to load USD funds with your US credit card.

Based on last year’s data points, this should count as a US restaurant purchase and therefore trigger the US$5–20 monthly credit.

You’d then be able to spend the USD funds in Canada – the exchange rate may not be ideal, but hey, it’s free coffee. Or you could save them for future purchases at Starbucks locations in the US.

I made my first US$20 load on February 1, and received the credit a few weeks later on February 14:

Thank you so much! I tried Uber Eats and others and nothing worked. I'll definitely do the Starbucks route.

Now, if I could only get someone to do my ink recycling for me. That looks like it should be a different conversation.

I think he meant uber eats in canada, which doesn't work IIRC.

Correct. Uber Eats works for US restaurants (I suspect), but for restaurants in Canada, it doesnt redeem.

Thanks to the community for helping out on this.
