@cgr or anyone, is there any way to figure out why my total September payment (split between DD to me and check to DW) was $376 more than prior months?
Any chance your July and August payments were less than it should have been?

I don't think so.

What's the formula?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

When they're sent the same way, it's sent as a single payment. When you update your preferred payment type, it only applies to your half of the payment.
Even though we file jointly?

I don't think so.

What's the formula?
$250/month for children 6-18
$300/month for children 5 and younger

Birthdays calculated as of 12/31/21

Based on that prior months were $50 short. Doesn't seem to explain the odd amount.

Then your Sep-Dec payments should have increased by $25 ($100 underpayment over 4 remaining months), plus an additional $50 to fix the original issue, for a total increase of $75.

I also got partial check and partial direct deposit for september with the total amount being 25% more than what I should have gotten (and what I got for july and august when I got only a check).

Do you mean 12/31/20?
What if someone turned 5 or 18 during the year?
What if a baby was born during the year?
Thanks.

No. 2021.
A child that is 5 now but turning 6 before year end receives $250/month, not $300.
A child turning 18 before year end receives no Advance.

Parents of babies born by 12/31/21 will receive the full CTC on the 2021 return.

Is there way to add a child born in 2021?

Also, I didn't get the monthly DD on 10/1. Did anyone else get theirs ?

It should be on the 15th of the month.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Thank you. You're right. For some reason I thought it was on the first.

No, although the IRS is still saying that they hope to add this feature to the portal "soon".

I have a client who received a check at his Israeli address for September advance CTC. (He has not use a US address previously.) The amount he received - $394 with 2 kids over 6 - does not seem to match anything. Interestingly, I noticed that this amount matches exactly what he paid for 2019 Obamacare tax. Have any of you who received extra for September, paid Obamacare tax?
