Not sure what was doing in Jan, but you can install the Firefox app and download the Adblock extension even on a non-rooted phone.

My battery has gotten progressively worse in the 6 months I have the phone. I recently tried an app called juice defender, which shuts off all mobile data every time your screen is off. I got rid of it because it added a delay in getting online whenever I turned the screen back on, which was too annoying for me. Anyone got any suggestions?

$40 (in the link you provided above) is not cheap IMO, and I don't trust off-brand batteries.

Nope, I just carry a spare and use the spare charger.

someone told me about an app that kills all apps running every so often (depending on your settings) its called "Advanced Task Killer"
does anyone use anything else thats good?

Task killer apps ceased to be useful beginning with Android 2.2.

I thought like you when I first got an Android you will learn soon how little apps affect your battery life. It's almost all screen that kills it for me.

The GNex has a built in task killer. Its the button on the bottom that shows all your running apps - just slide any of the, to the side to kill them. ICS also reduces the usage of all background apps.

Correction. Above was an old post and its not in GMaps on the Gnex any more. There are definately 3rd party apps but Im not sure about Nav within Gmaps now. I will update if I find out more...

That's just for maps.
I thought there was something coming for offline navigation as well? Or is that only if you have Jelly Bean OS?

I decided to check on my own. I am running JellyBean so Im not sure if its tied to the OS version. Im running Maps version 6.10.0
1) I sent into settings and selected "offline and cache" and made sure automatic caching was selected (you can only choose between wifi and both wifi/mobile).
2) I input a starting and end address and started the navigation.
3) went into airplane mode
4) the entire route was available.

I think it would work.

Also, for just the maps option, see attached pics for offline caching (not for nav).
