Galaxy Nexus Tips And Tricks
« on: December 20, 2011, 12:35:23 AM »
Maybe this is obvious for Android pros, but this was driving me crazy for a while.

To turn on audible notifications for new SMS but turn off audible notifications for new emails, gchats, etc:
-Settings>Sound>Default Notification>Silent.
-Messaging>Settings>Select Ringtone.

No more new email alerts at 5am and no more missed texts!

You will still get the pulse light flashing with any new emails unless you disable the pulse light.

Any more good tips/tricks that may not be obvious to noobs?

I couldn't get calendar to work (when you try to add an event you get sent though a loop), but I was able to get it working by deleting my google account from the phone and then reactivating the account by signing in through calendar.

Worked for my phone and my wife's phone.

Anyone else have this bug?

Anyone else have this bug?

My setup may be a little different (syncing to an Exchange server as well), but I am not seeing this bug (even when saving the event to the google calendar).

I did encounter another bug a couple times - where the main navigation icons at the bottom ceased to appear. Needed to reboot to resolve.

Any good tether apps out there that don't require rooting?

Seems like it can be rooted. Though it is still a bit complicated.

Just downloaded a free 2 day trial version of "Wifi Hotspot and USB Tether" and it's working perfectly despite the warning it has that it may not work with GNex.

If it still works at the end of the trial I'll buy the full version for $9.99
