i have the lg optimus. tether works flawlessly every time (though it does need to wired)
If anyone with the GNex tries out easytether please post your experience.

Lg optimus is really easy to root, there's an app called gingerbreak which will root it.

link
Root will bring u  new options - just to make it simple to understand - u can

 1. remove apps that u dont like or dont use - improve battery life and speed + u can add anything available!
 2. costumize icon + status bar + dialer and much more - make your device on "your style"
 3. flash any working avaible ROM with diferent features - what u like u will get

 check out for example

 1. cognition - simple fast and easy to use
 2. MIUI almost unlimited options for changing themes and much more
 3. caynogen - stock android - clean and clear - fast and stable

and like this you will have lots of options - i took out few that i like most but they are many more out there.

rooting is the option novadays - dont worry everyone was rooting first time! dont be afraid - believe me.

Still don't see the benefit for me.
I have the apps, bookmarks, and folders I use daily on the main home screens and removed all apps/widgets I don't use.
The ICS dialer seems excellent, dunno why I'd want to change it.
There is no lag on the GNex that I've noticed.

Unless I'm missing something it doesn't seem to be worth the hassle at all on my GNex.
Now if there was a way to improve copy/paste and highlighting like on my Centro or run Luach from Palm OS I'd be all over that!

I have a custom rom running on a LG Optimus and it actually does have an improved copy and paste, not as good as the Centro (still can't figure out why that had to be changed).

I love root because it lets me control app permisions, tether and perform full backups (titanium etc..).

I rooted my nexus s 4g sprint with one click root -. It was extremely easy and no issues. So far the only thing that I have done with it is tether - I understand that AT&T and Verizon will charge you even if you are rooted.

If anyone has any ideas for programs to install after you root your phone I would appreciate!

Proof please?  There are numerous apps mentioned in this thread that appear to work fine for VZW phones even if not rooted.
I don't get why the rush to root and possibly damage your phone/void your warranty unless there's something specific you're doing it for?

Not sure about Verizon but I do know that AT&T is coming after people.

With the nexus it is very simple to relock your phone and getting your warranty back.

If you look at the link provided you'll see that At&t indeed does come after you.

That's darn near the theoretical max for LTE.

Was that replicable?

AFAIK LTE bursts up to 100 Mbps, so if Dan's test was based on a small sample which tested at a peak burst, it might be accurate for that sample (and even replicable with enough tries) but not sustainable for an extended data session.

A new tethering app that doesn't require root/jailbreaking. Its very early in development but keep an eye out for it.

"Over the last month, I've been working on a new app.
Tether Alpha is a USB[2] tether solution for Mac, Windows, and Linux that allows you to use your phone's data connection to get internet access on your desktop or laptop.ClockworkMod Tether does not require root on your phone and does not require a separate tethering plan. Tether should work with any carrier and phone, and is not blockable or detectable by carriers[1]. To get around the root requirement on your phone, Tether will need to install a virtual network adapter on your computer; so there is a PC side install. [3]I'm looking for meaningful feedback in the following areas:1) Did you have problems installing it or getting it working? (If so, operating system? Ie, Windows 7 64 bit, etc)2) How is your download speed once everything is set up?The UI is pretty rough, the icons, and general app design are not final. I am just looking to make sure the underlying services all work properly.Download links:Mac: http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/tether-mac.zipLinux: http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/tether-linux.tgz [4]Windows: http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/TetherWindowsSetup.msiThe above links should automatically install the Android portion if you have USB debugging enabled on the phone, but if something goes awry, here's the Android APK:http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/Tether.apkI am intentionally not providing any installation instructions, because I feel that if the app can't be set up without installation instructions, I have failed to make it easy enough to use. ;)So please provide any feedback you may have if you have a hiccup during installation! (The final market released product will have instructions though)This version will time bomb on January 7th. I'll release new versions before then, so if the app stops working, just check back here. Thanks all!"
