dont know if it was mentioned in the original linked cnet article but here on engadget it shows 1.5ghz instead of the underclocked 1.2ghz in the vzw version.

Interesting. Still I've yet to experience any sort of lag on the GNex, so I'd rather have the 32GB.  Strange that they are getting cheap there, especially without any kind of expandable memory slot.

btw another huge benefit of rooting is (as mentioned by another poster) is SetCPU - not to overclock - but just to set the battery saver profile aka "screen off" profile. what it does is minimizes the processor to the minimum when the screen is off.
ive seen a huge difference in battery performance.

titanium backup is great - i used to use it all the time but with ICS, its so easy to have all of your apps restored. as long as you enable "backup my data" & "automatic restore" in settings >> backup and restore.

but if there is one benefit it would have to be "wireless tether" (free) for rooted users. its really simple to root this gnex, and there are 1 click options already... (i believe)

have you tried the google + hangout from the gnex?

its pretty cool - i think we should start a galaxy nexus DD hangout ;)

DAN - I noticed that your first post was figuring out sound settings.

I have been using Locale since coming to Android. benefit is that based on where i am/time/pre-defined event, a certain thing/setting is set. so for example, 11pm i have the night profile which silences notifications.... also, wifi by default is off, but when locale sees im at work or home wifi is turned on. (via cell tower location)

this OLD post (from my blog thats not really updated anymore) may interest some: http://anothermobiletechblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/screenshots-on-verizons-htc-thunderbolt.html

For $9.99 I'm not going to root a phone and risk being turned down for warranty service.  I gladly paid the $9.99 for the tether app and it works flawlessly.

Haven't played with G+ yet.

Will look into Locale.

Woohoo!

But they're already marketing this phone as being LTE when they haven't even pushed the power button on their LTE network yet. Ha.

Any more good tips/tricks that may not be obvious to noobs?

Somehow I just noticed this yesterday, after using the Galaxy Nexus for a few weeks...

The volume up/down button on the left side will toggle notifications between audible/vibrate/silent modes. If you lower the volume all the way (when not in the phone app) it goes into vibrate mode and if you lower it further it goes into silent mode.

Until now I've been switching into vibrate mode by holding down the button on the right and choosing vibrate mode, but this is easier and provides the additional option to go silent.

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

I can't get my emails to push automatically. Always need to refresh in order to bring new emails. Is there a setting I should be changing?

I'm using 2 gmails, a Yahoo, and 2 corporate emails.

I don't see the icon with the 2 arrows you are referring to. I've played around with my homescreen layout quite a bit. Any idea where in the settings I can find that?
