I decided to check on my own. I am running JellyBean so Im not sure if its tied to the OS version. Im running Maps version 6.10.0

Yes, but once you are in airplane mode you cannot type in any address.  Nothing new compared to old versions of Maps.
I thought Google said there would be offline nav available.

What do you use to.navigate when your out of country. Does your map app find ur location without wifi?
I used to download an area on the map like in the screenshot above , and try to make my around with that.  Sometimes annoying.

I was able to check out JB (CM10) for my device (not GN) and was not at all blown away by it. Google actually only gave it a decimal point in the version number...
