You mentioned a great price for the OWB. Is that a promo or the standard rates for the hotel? In addition was the OWB out of this world?

Ha, I'm not writing episodes of 24.

I'm posting them as I write 'em.

You do know that if you actually were to buy the tickets you flew, you wouldnt pay nearly that much?

Though it does look cool to say that you got $60K tix for next to nothing.

Almost like Dans $250K RTW tix... ;)

Maskim! I always say that to everyone when I fly that according to kayak I would have paid 20k a ticket.. although I know that is not really accurate as I would have figured out a cheaper way to get those tickets.

I'm not sure why you say that...

You can go--right now--on Kayak or Orbitz or even Etihad itself and you'll see that a OW from JFK-AUH in F is $13K+, not including AUH-MLE.

If you piece together multiple one ways, you obviously get a crazy high price.
Get a quote from a TA for a RT and it will be less.

You can go RTW in SQ Suites for less then the prices you posted...

...except that's not piecing together anything.

That's a simple OW from JFK-AUH.

$13K+.

I was referring to your total price of $41K+.

And I dont think anyone ever buys a international F class OW ticket if they know the first thing about airline tix...

Perhaps not, but 1) these are the flights I took, and if I wanted to buy them, this is how much it'd cost me (I even called up Etihad to confirm), and 2) I didn't just mash up a bunch of OWs with the United miles, they said I could get them or 120K OR pay $12K.

Perhaps if I was paying and could have bought the EY F ticket RT it woulda been cheaper, I guess you're right about that, but it's not what I did.

Not saying your wrong, for the flights you took, that's what it would cost.

But to say that's the true value of the trip IMO is just a little bit of fantasizing.

As I said
Though it does look cool to say that you got $60K tix for next to nothing.

True value is a funny thing. It's idiosyncratic, it's amorphous, and it's relative.

Is it what I could have gotten these exact tickets for on the market? ($41K)
Is it what I could have gotten EY F for RT? ($30K)
Is it what a reasonable person would have paid for EY F? ($??)
Is it what I personally would have paid for these tickets? (<$5K for sure)

It's open to various approaches, so I just performed the calculations I believe most people do when calculating these things. Is there a better, more consistent way?

In addition to using a "Stay 5 nights, get the 6th night free" promo, I used a great travel agent who was able to get me a deal.
