+1, how is this still a thing in 2021?
It’s the only State in America that’s it’s still illegal to pump your own gas

This is the opposite of the Great Recession. Tons of unemployed people, but pretty much all by choice.

Meanwhile, with the NJ gas tax hike last year we went from one of the cheapest gas in the country to one of the most expensive. Same price as NY! The cost savings of self service would offset the tax hike for drivers.

It's about jobs. NJ doesn't want thousands of unemployed gas attendants. Easy fix would be to allow drivers to pump their own gas from say 10pm - 7am when non-24hr stations are otherwise closed. I've almost run out of gas in NJ a few times late at night - even though I passed half a dozen closed stations - because I couldn't find a station open 24 hours.

Another fix would be to phase in self service in 4-5 years which would give attendants time to train/find a job in another industry.

Just get rid of the dumb law about gas attendants.
Don't know if it makes sense financially, but I, for one, enjoy full service 99% of the time. The 1% of the time that I'm in a rush and the attendant doesn't come to the car quickly, just start doing it yourself. That'll get a guy there quick. Or not, either way all is well.

National average for office managers is around 20/hour. They're offering that to sem grads with no experience.
How exactly is an entry level sem grad supposed to know how to effectively and efficiently manage an office?

She definitely doesn't know how to pump gas.

'Office manager' sounds like little more than a fancy title for a secretary

#stagflation ETA?

My guess is the employees are celebrating Memorial weekend a little early especially since weather was great today and supposed to be rainy tomorrow.

I think most office managers do more than that, but hey, titles really don't mean anything in heimish companies. Take one look at LinkedIn for example.

Hey, I actually like LinkedIn, but the titles people give themselves are ridiculous.
Somehow every company has 25 founders and CEOs.
I'm not sure why people think it looks impressive. Show me you started as an intern and worked your way up.
If you left BMG to become a high level exec of a massive company, either you're lying, or it's your father in law's business.

Seriously guys I'm desperate to hire. I have spoke to so many people. I'm not being cheap.  Any tips on how to find a good employee without paying $5000 for a "recruiter"?

Can advertise on DDMS for a fraction of that :)
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Oh for sure - LinkedIn has good uses; I even got my current job through LinkedIn.

Yet somehow every time I open LinkedIn I crack up...

- the selfie videos sitting in the car talking about some deep sounding high school motivational nonsense
- the highly personal posts about how many times they pooped that day
- the inane brainless banter in the comments; where frum men and women who wouldn't even make eye contact in real life just shoot the breeze
- the highly controversial posts where it seems like they're really trying hard to alienate as many potential clients/employees/employers as possible
- how someone with 14 months in an industry calls themselves a Director of XYZ (C level positions are when they get 19 months experience)
- and other hilarities that I can't think of at the moment

In a sentence, frum people decided to use LinkedIn as a kosher Facebook.

I find remote employees is very difficult to communicate constantly, and productivity you can't compare to in house. But part remotely I'm open to

I might actually consider ;)   BTW that's a real quote I got

What type of work? Office? Physical?
Office work. But not secretarial.  It's in depth detailed work. I need someone very smart that doesn't get frazzled from multi tasking

I'm actually so grateful for that tax hike, got rid of the fill up in NJ burden before entering the City once and for all :D
